Unlike its metal versions, the POCKETMASTER MONO is very light. It’s made entirely from high-quality "1920 black" ebonite.
Ebonite is a natural, durable material made from rubber tree sap. It was first used in the 1920s for premium writing instruments. It has a warm feel and is resistant to scratches and wear.
The ebonite used here comes from one of the few workshops in the world still producing it: Schönberger Ebonite Manufactory, based in Hitzacker, Germany. They are long-time partners of the pen’s creator, ELBWOOD.
Each pen is made by hand in Germany by Frank Pressentin, the founder of ELBWOOD. He uses traditional, manual machines and works directly on the lathe, like a sculptor shaping each piece. That’s why no two pens are exactly alike.
At just 10 cm when closed, the POCKETMASTER MONO is likely one of the smallest full-size fountain pens out there. When the cap is posted on the back, it becomes a perfectly balanced pen for writing. The ribbed grip section in the center adds both function and character.
The fine grooves are cut with a special tool and help guide your fingers when writing. The cap screws onto the back to extend the pen.
The design is simple, minimal, and timeless. Despite its size, it fits comfortably in the hand and can easily be carried in a pocket.
The nib is one of the most important parts of any fountain pen. While this pen is usually available with a black stainless steel nib made by JoWo (Berlin), the one we offer comes already upgraded with an 18K gold nib (size No. 6).
The pen uses standard international cartridges. A few in royal blue are included in the box.
