Made using the colored ebonite "Chirashi" technique and fitted with a 21K gold Naginata Togi nib, previous models like KAIHA, KOUEN, RYOKKYOU, SEKKEI, SYOKEI, and MOUKO now have a new addition.
This year, the UMESAKI joins the series—another colored ebonite fountain pen with our signature 21K gold KOP Naginata Togi nib.
UMESAKI’s color is based on the artwork “Plum Estate in Kameido” by Hiroshige Utagawa. This piece is part of his famous “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo” woodblock print series.
Hiroshige made this print in the final year of his life. It became well known outside Japan and was later copied by Vincent van Gogh in 1887 in a piece called “Flowering Plum Tree.” The original print is known for its deep perspective and strong visual effect.
The UMESAKI pen reflects this print through its design: pink for the background, white Chirashi elements for plum blossoms, and gray and black to show the tree’s trunk and branches.
Hiroshige Utagawa (1797–1858)
A major Ukiyo-e artist from the late Edo period. Born in Edo (now Tokyo), he trained in the Utagawa school. He started with portraits of Kabuki actors and samurai. Later, influenced by Hokusai, he focused on landscapes.
His landscape prints—like “The 53 Stations of the Tokaido,” “The 69 Stations of the Kisokaido,” and “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo”—helped create a new direction in Ukiyo-e art.
