The Editions
For the 4810 edition, Montblanc revisits Blue Nude III, translating its bold blue-and-white cut-out composition through deep lacquer finishes and platinum-coated details. As the barrel turns, a seated female figure gradually appears—a subtle nod to Matisse’s iconic “drawing with scissors” technique. The rhodium-coated Au 750 gold nib features the intertwined initials “H” and “M”, while the organically shaped white lacquer clip references The Sheaf. The edition is limited to 4,810 fountain pens and 4,810 rollerballs.
The 888 edition finds inspiration in La Blouse Roumaine, a painting portraying a woman dressed in a blue skirt and the traditional Romanian blouse known as the ie, decorated with vibrant red and black embroidered motifs. The edition reflects Matisse’s fascination with textiles, ornament, colour, and expressive pattern.
The barrel and cap echo the painting’s vivid red and blue palette, while the textured lacquer surface recalls the feel of a painted canvas. Embroidered details from the blouse appear in black and red lacquer on the barrel, alongside refined engravings on the solid Au 750 gold cone.
The mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem is set in black onyx and framed by a solid Au 750 gold ring, while the cone is also topped with black onyx, reinforcing the dialogue between rich materials and artistic reference. The solid Au 750 gold nib is embossed with Large Face (Mask), celebrating the purity of the artist’s line work. The edition is limited to 888 fountain pens.
