Scribo takes inspiration from a 1256 decree to give life to a colorful collection that celebrates the gesture of writing as a liberating act.

Inspiration

The La Dotta Liber Paradisus takes its inspiration from the historic Liber Paradisus, a decree issued in Bologna in 1256 that stands as one of the earliest legislative acts in Europe to affirm the principle that all individuals are born free. By referencing this milestone, SCRIBO links the act of writing to the broader idea of intellectual and personal freedom. The edition’s name and identity therefore celebrate writing as a deliberate and conscious act – an instrument through which ideas, rights, and knowledge have historically been recorded, preserved, and transmitted across generations.

Design & Materials

The La Dotta Liber Paradisus is built on a solid ebonite chassis, a material that has long been praised among enthusiasts for its qualities, warm tactile feel, and subtle matte finish. Due to its surface, ebonite offers a softer touch and improved grip during extended writing sessions compared to its resin counterparts.

The edition is presented in two colour variations: Liber, featuring deep red ebonite with yellow veining paired with gold trim, and Paradisus, made from blue ebonite with red veins complemented by palladium finishes. The pen follows the rounded proportions of the La Dotta line, measuring approximately 149 mm closed and 139 mm uncapped. Each fountain pen is equipped with SCRIBO’s integrated piston filling system, whose ink capacity of roughly 1.42 ml is sufficient to accommodate even extended writing sessions.

Writing Experience & Collectibility

As with any SCRIBO fountain pen in the brand's portfolio, the writing experience lies at the heart of this edition. The Liber Paradisus comes in two nib configurations: an 18-carat gold nib, offered in sizes ranging from Extra Extra Fine to Triple Broad and Stub, and SCRIBO’s renowned 14-carat flexible gold nib, designed to provide expressive line variation depending on writing pressure. The nib is paired with an ebonite feed featuring dual capillaries, engineered to ensure consistent ink flow and stable performance during extended writing sessions. Produced in a limited edition of 90 pieces per colour, the Liber Paradisus is both an excellent writer and a collectible piece.
