PIUMA Hane Kuro

Japan has a unique way of blending tradition and detail.
On a recent trip, we had the chance to visit the region of Yamanakaonsen and see the work of Urushi masters up close.

These artisans use the ancient Tamenuri technique — slow, precise layers of lacquer applied by hand — to create fountain pens like this one: the PIUMA Hane Kuro.

This is not a product we make. We are simply offering it for those who appreciate this kind of craftsmanship.

The color is a deep green, almost black. It shifts with light and time. At first glance, it may seem dark — but if you look closely, green reflections appear.

Each pen is shaped by Arakawa-san, who applies the lacquer. Then, the names of both Arakawa-san and SCRIBO are engraved in Katakana by Hariya-san.
Before reaching us, the pens are checked by Rabea Gebler and tested for writing quality in Bologna.

Each piece comes with a handmade pouch by Marco Montalti, using original Japanese kimono and haori fabrics.

PIUMA Hane Kuro is available in a limited number: just 100 pieces. Each one comes with either yellow gold or ruthenium trim, and flexible 18kt or 14kt gold nibs.

This is a pen that doesn’t show off. Its beauty reveals itself slowly, to those who take the time to notice.
